Publicans v FBD: Owner of Sinnotts, Capitol, Copan, and the Black Lion latest to launch legal action

Chris Kelly controls one of the country’s largest pub groups, with a string of venues in the city centre and throughout the suburbs. All are locked down and Kelly has now issued proceedings against his insurer FBD.

If FDB’s hierarchy thought that some of the country’s leading publicans would simply accept the decision not to pay out business interruption cover as a result of Covid-19, they thought wrong.

First, the owners of Lemon & Duke went legal. Sean’s Bar, the oldest pub in the country and ranked by Lonely Planet as one of the world’s finest, quickly followed. Next up was the Loyola Group, which controls a stable of highly regarded pubs throughout Dublin and Portugal.
